SHE SANG ABOUT BLOOD

Sippin' Sangria with all kinds of fruit inside while lounging on deck chairs at the house, wearing cut-offs and a Lacuna Coil t-shirt from their show you just saw, and whining about how complicated your life is. Playing tennis before that, then after getting all sweaty and defeated, lapsing into a coma in the pool.

I am still so glad I blew off my graduation ceremony for this. And Panda makes me amazing tofu dinners, Starbucks out here is well versed in my absolute favourite iced green tea lattes that I fell in love with in Beijing and all these fun things keep popping up around the city right in the nick of time to save me from the hazy, sun-dried spell of boredom I would usually have in the middle of summer. I am really going to savour this and appreciate how good I have it because once I touch back down in Abu Dhabi in September, it's all about the 9-5.

Might be checking out some major surfing competition that's sponsored by Hurley at Huntington Beach today, then heading into downtown for Exene's show that I told you about (couldn't go to the opening), then hopefully this:
...then a week in Vegas with Panda's family for his major bday bash and a wedding. Starting to get jitters over the 'f' word.

WHATEVER'S LEFT

I may not be as design-tastic and talented as my home girls in the last post, but sometimes I have great ideas too...?

Can't believe it took me this long to post this necklace up. I've kind of been wearing it around London near non-stop since december. Maybe if I weren't so lazy about my wardrobe postings, I would've worn some all-black ensemble with this and snapped a photo for you just so you can get the full essence of how fucking cool this piece can be. Oh well. You guys have imaginations, don't you? I need a photographer.

On another note:
YOU GUYSSSS! WE GRADUATED YESTERDAY!!!! well, you did. I took up a trip to Los Angeles instead (my grandfather is going to kill me). But you guys look so dap. LOVE YOU!

PANDA NEEDS A MASSAGE

Panda: what are you doing?
Me: I'm looking for a title for this post
Panda: Put 'Panda Needs a Massage'

EXENE CERVENKA and WAYNE WHITE We’re Not the Jet Set Paintings, Collages and Sculptures July 25 – September 5, 2009 Opening reception Saturday July 25th, 5 -8pm

Western Project is proud to present Exene Cervenka and Wayne White in We’re Not the Jet Set. Each a long time resident of Los Angeles, they address contemporary America with an urban sensibility and found objects. Wayne White paints language on vintage framed lithographs, recalling the intelligence and incisive bite of Mark Twain. Exene Cervenka, lead singer of the seminal punk band X, collages remnants from her travels across the US: photographs, children’s books, bullet boxes and other familiar pieces of Americana. Both artists point to a shared history – a Pop culture and cosmology illuminating the light and darker aspects of our society. Cervenka unabashedly explores desire and consequence; White’s paintings are colloquial tidbits, humorous tales of knowledge. Both are after a kind of wisdom within the shadows of human nature. While clearly in the lineage of Marcel Duchamp and Joseph Cornell, these artists cut to the chase about who we are and what we are up to.

Exene Cervenka is currently touring with X, and included in Celestial Ash; Assemblages From Los Angeles, curated by Kristine McKenna at the Craft and Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles. Wayne White will open a solo sculpture exhibition at Rice University in September and is the subject of the recent release: Wayne White: Maybe Now I’ll Get the Respect I So Richly Deserve, edited and designed by Todd Oldham and published by Ammo Books, LLC.

Since I can't see their show tomorrow, I'm going to get on hands and knees and do whatever it takes to get Panda to take me to the opening of this. K, bye, massage time.

KNOW YOUR PLACE, SHUT YOUR FACE

I had gotten an invite to the Grand Opening party of the new Kill City store on Melrose wayy back and couldn't attend because I was in London, obv. That sucked. Now that I'm in town for a while, I finally got a chance to stop by and check it out. It's beyond fucking fantastic. I get stupid over their jeans because I've never had jeans fit me so perfectly in any other brand and so everytime they're due to send me free shit, I always go for a pair of Junkie-fit skinnies, but when you go there, check out the jewelry too!

And I met this super helpful employee there whose name I forgot, but she was so cool and so nice and totally nailed a pair of shredded black KC skinnies. I told her about my blog and she wrote it down to check out, so this is just a 'hello lovely and welcome to the site' shout-out in case you actually did get a chance to browse me.

Here are a couple things I REALLY wouldn't fucking mind owning from KC:

#1
If you read two posts back, you'd know I was into the acid wash look right now, so yes, these jeans

#2
No explanation here

#3
fucking sick variation of previous

#4
Sweet imagery. I like owls...

#5
And the boyf wants this (which I'd definitely be borrowing once or twice)

..and there was a handful of other stuff, of course, so check it!
They're actually looking for a style intern (even though I didn't just graduate from design school) , as well as conspirators for their blog, which I am of course tackling because who wouldn't want more of their rad clothing?? KC, PICK ME!!!!!

SHALLOW LIFE

So I went to this gig last night at House of Blues on Sunset Strip. Good shit. Despite being a die-hard Lacuna fan since I was 15, and only showing my face there for them, I think Kill Hannah (who I've never listened to before) had much more of a stage presence in my head during and by the end of the night. But maybe it's because I have a rapidly developing crush on their lead; but only when his hair is frizzy. I would link a pic but nothing on google justifies him because I think he likes the whole pressed-emo-hair-in-my-face thing and the only reason I knew he had nice curly/frizzed hair was because the wilder he got on stage the more chunks of frizz fell from under his hood (awww, he was hiding a bad hair day).

I couldn't really hear much of Christina Scabbia's lyrics (not that I needed to since I know them off my head) but something was slightly up with their mics, compared to the other bands. Andrea Ferro was smokin' though. I guess it was more of a night of ogling testosterone. And yet my boyfriend was there hugging me from behind. Sad.

On a side-note, HOB, two vodka/redbulls in pathetic little plastic cups priced at $24? Not cool. Pictures to come, I think.

I COULD USE A CHARMER

Because I need to compensate for a shit-for-brains laptop, this acid wash denim laptop bag could suffice and if Panda really wants to get me a graduation present, all I'm sayin'...doesn't hurt to make your girl happy.

Only really good shit from Pixie Market, obv.

MY GOODNESS IS STRONG, AND IT'S STRONGER LAYING DOWN

Panda, while you were away, I've been finding all these ridic pictures of me that I don't recall, like this, and like the ones on your digital SLR of me sleeping the night I got here. I love you and I'll get you.

SHE GETS CONFUSED FLYING OVER THE DATELINE

Okay, as much as I'd love to promise to post with regularity, I am just having too fucking good a time for that to happen. EVEN BETTER, X IS IN CALIFORNIA! The only two questions I have are...where's Costa Mesa, and how do I get there? Hmmm. To be continued...

Otherwise, I'm seeing Lacuna Coil! (a sick Italian gothic metal band that's been on my playlist since I was like 15 - yeah, to me that's a long time)

Otherwise, Panda's been AWOL staying in the Valley while I'm at home as he's doing a 5 day film-stint so his housemate F and my friend Sebastian have been babysitting me. After my foreign ID got turned down at Cinespace (which looked fuckin' scarce neways), we ended up at Spaceland. Cool venue. I love how it's all up in some residential area and conveniently neighbour to a 7 Eleven. It's cool cuz there are satellite dishes turned upside down and hanging from the ceiling and it bounces back everything that people are saying from across the room. Be careful. Some girl was really trash-talking on the opposite couch.

But the band was sick. A bunch of adorable red-heads trading instruments every 5 minutes. Sort of folky American roots stuff and audience members banging pots and things. They were selling these really cute hand-painted tambourines as well for $5 that I really wanted to buy and keep as CA junk memorabilia but I've already peaked my weekly budget in 2 days. Figured. I also phenomenally suck at pool.

(for the record, Sebastian, they moved to Portland from Alaska)

I'm taking two buses to Little Tokyo today. Sebastian's babysitting me again...and probably praying that my ID works for the thingie we're meant to be going to tonight that's like an hour away on the bus. I'm praying too. Either way, I'm just so fucking excited to hang with him and crash at his place and just do whatever.

[you know what's really annoying me? The fonts are all jacked up and I can't figure out which one was my original...]

Something I got done today.
I'm flying to LAX tomorrow morning from Dubai, which means a 2 hour drive + a 17 hour flight. Yuck full stop

[I am still in need of a writing job]

I drink a lot of tea. Stomach Easing, Slimming, Skin Clearing, green, black, white, Chai, English Breakfast and Earl Grey, to be specific. I recently found out that the tabs of my Yogi Tea bags have little sayings on it. I have one for you:

"Happiness is taking things as they are"

MY BODY IS MY INSTRUMENT

DUDE! MINUTES after that last post where I talked about finding the perfect piece to show off my F-hole tattoo, I find this t-shirt on some website called Threadless. So my back's off days are covered too (no pun intended). They need this in black or white though.

Sort of VERY reminiscent of some awesome dresses spotted on Obesity and Speed, I know, but I like this one more because of the exposed lower back. Finally, a decent piece that can show off my Man Ray inspired F-hole tattoos.

Balmain. Leather.

WHAT?! Delfina Delettrez Fendi craziness.

I just threw this in because I had forgotten that while selling my stuff on Brick Lane, I ended up selling my favourite purple scarf from around my neck out of desperation when this woman was gushing over it. And this babe is the only purple one I've seen so far that trumps that one. But $28 for a scarf is some beyond borders bullshit.

haha.
When I haven't been paying attention to your virtual needs, I've been working, shopping, packing, list-making, reading, sleeping, brooding and browsing RVCA blogs.

What band is this? I love the kinds of bands that are sprouting up these days. Just add a member with an unruly perm, some shiny leggings and you're good to go.

Hard to write these days as...L.A. IS HAPPENING IN FUCKING DAYS!

LIFE IS SHORT. STUNT IT.

Clearly, I had an idle moment recently and took in the movie Hot Rod that was conveniently On Demand on the flat screen. I confess. I laughed. I do quite like Andy Samberg actually. But anyway, his stunt outfit is my current clothing inspiration; and his quote 'Life is short. Stunt it.' is so fucking hilarious. It NEEDS to be on a t-shirt (is it? Please direct me to it.). I think I need me some high top Vans now. Time for an upgrade. Which reminds me, I have a pair of faithfully crusty green Converse high tops at the bottom of one of my unpacked suitcases dying for some wearage. Might take them out for a spin tomorrow. I'm renting a bike for an hour to fuck around with along the Corniche (waterfront).

I'm trying to mix up my workout routine. Today I did one of those 30 minute treadmill workout programmes where they fuck with your head and your feet and change the speed and incline like every fucking minute. And then I did laps in the pool. I also do yoga and have been trying out that crossfit hellishness that my boyfriend recommended, along with other odd bits at the gym but I get bored easily with workouts so it would be good to take it to the streets tomorrow. Would kill to get some tennis in but I think the punishing heat here would kill me first. Tennis just doesn't happen this time of year. And because of a similar weather problem, it isn't 'surfing season' in Dubai. So I'm obviously counting the days like a prison inmate until Los Angeles happens.

On Wednesday I'm getting my breasts checked; and it's not because of an amazing blogger's unsuspecting incident. I've always had on-again-off-again cyst and soreness problems ever since I started tampering with contraceptive pills (no big deal, but...maybe it is?) and the other day I failed to keep my mouth shut about some pain and my mom panicked like fuck. No harm, I guess. Plus I haven't gotten them checked in over 8 months. And who knows if those damn British medical people even knew what the fuck they were talking about? Not panicking, I promise.

P.S. Until my employment status gets pimped, I'll be posting 'I am still in need of a writing job' at the end of every post.

PURPLE DIARY PT. 2

Yesterday was not so good. My mom was throwing a surprise going away party for one of her oldest friends in Abu Dhabi and I took over the design and decorating reigns. The theme was Christmas in July...I was lugging fuckin' christmas trees from the basement with a string of lights wrapped around my waist like a good idea for a belt. At the same time, the other day I started taking exercise routines from this website called crossfit.com and wouldn't leave the gym until I had good and proper fucked myself up. So, getting up on a ladder to string lights meant throwing myself off it to get down. I could not bend anything in my lower body, and I was smiling about it (I love gym pain). But okay, so why was it a bad day. After about 8 hours of feeling like style director of House Beautiful, I realised the door to our dog's little room was wide open. Turns out my dad took the dog first thing in the morning to be put down without telling any of us. Dropped what I was doing and went bawling to my room. This was an hour before showtime, as I was also invited to the party. Your girl got good and proper dressed the fuck up and good and proper wasted. She also sliced her leg open on the door of the stove SOMEHOW??! I hadn't even noticed how bad it was until my leg started spurting shit everywhere. Squeezed the bits of flesh together while my mom threw on some plasters, the colour of which I obviously stopped to choose, then my sister brought me some ice cream and I took myself to my room. I woke up with the phone off the hook in my left hand. Panda said I called him and talked about cats crossing streets, asked him why he loved me and bawled some more about my dog then passed out 5 minutes later. The end.

Oh, and the greasy shit's honey. I've been reading up a lot on food lately and how they can cure basically everything you normally turn to over the counter junk for. And honey supposedly kills bacteria, disinfects wounds and sores, reduces perception to pain, alleviates asthma, soothes sore throats, calms the nerves, induces sleep and relieves diarrhea...and smells good. I'm truly amazed by food now and am hoping to ween myself off of drugs this year. I'm so proud of myself for not grabbing two aspirin first thing this morning for my throbbing hangover and just green tea'ing it back to health instead. What a fucking hippie.

JUST KEEP YOUR EYES ON YOUR PART AND LEAVE ME ALONE IN MINE

Latest buys in the shoe department just posin' and shit on my shower ledge. Office/Topshop.

I've been believing in fate a lot lately, and so when I excused myself to go to the bathroom when my family and I were dining at a restaurant in one of the mega malls here, I really went to try on these Topshop heels that I passed earlier and doubted. I hadn't tried them because my foot's so big that stores usually never have my size over here (small feet/fair skin/hairless a woman maketh in this society). But I saw it again and I was actually coincidentally thinking of purchasing something hookerishly tall for the summer. Well, it was the last pair, it was my size and I got a ridic discount on it that reduced it from like $425 dirhams to $382 dhs (about £63). For me, that's still expensive but because of fate and the fact that cheap shoes ALWAYS have agendas (these Primarks nearly severed half my toes), I've decided to put forward a lot more cash on my future footwear. Feet are just too fuckin' precious.

AND IF YOU'RE COMING, JUMP

Thursday I took a bus into Dubai and met some hot chicks with eyebrow piercings in their SUV in the parking lot of a grocery store and bought a clear retainer to put in my septum piercing off them. That's a long sentence. I love bus rides...and watermelon juice, sunglasses, having time to do non-required reading (The White Tiger is going sooo good)... It was good that I had to go all the way there to get that retainer. It was disgustingly hot but the little trip did me good. Kept my mind off my dog.
