MAKE ANYONE CRY TODAY? SADLY, NO, BUT IT'S ONLY 4.30
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KA9rNLZX2G8
I have the DVD and watched it again one lame night last week, but seriously? The whole movie is up there! Look how good I am to you. I used to want to be Katerina Stratford so badly. Now I'm back on it. And Heath Ledger in this is just...is it wrong to put the deceased in your spank bank? Sorry, that was majorly offensive. For what it's worth, I always thought he had superb talent.

I CAN TELL THAT WE ARE GONNA BE FRIENDS
I'm sure you guys have heard about this film. Along with that other one Jack White stars in on guitarists (It Might Get Loud), which I sadly didn't get to catch while in Cali last year, I've been wanting to watch this one for several months now. It follows the band as they embarked on a cross-country Canadian tour with the goal of performing in every province and territory across the northern nation. It's probably nothing that non-Stripes fans would be interested in but I get the fattest lady erections for Jack - who I hear is obnoxious, but you would be if you were him, so give him a break. Not to mention, I of course love their work. The box set came out yesterday and I think they'll also have a coffee table book, and some live CDs and DVDs in association with it. Any Stripes fans out there think the DVD is worth buying?

SHE'S WELL ACQUAINTED WITH THE TOUCH OF THE VELVET HAND
Some uber shit in September's Vogue. Deep red it is.
Some other rouge-y bits I'm eyeballing, these from Topshop:

Speaking of the September issue, I saw the movie, and "I'm just sayin'" (can't get over Kanye saying that), it was a much needed boost to keep me on track in my efforts to secure a job in a respected fashion magazine office - seriously uplifting, inspiring and beautiful. Team Coddington! (you'll see what I mean when you watch it)

TEENAGE WASTELAND

There's something about Geoff Cordner's beach photos that are just so...ideal? Aside from his surfer lifestyle shots, he's probably most known for documenting the raw, gnarly side of life, and at the same time, making it so beautifully stimulating. Like 'Hotel Hopscotch' is the best thing ever. But where the fuck do I get my hands on the rest of the series?? So good.-------------------------
A lot's been going on over here, but I've mostly been working and updating my portfolio etc.; business cards, website, new resume et al. I think I'd really like to dabble in stylist and interior decorating work, along with the usual freelance writing. I think I'm a little more fashion forward than the average person (can I say that?) and with my mother being an interior decorator, I grew up in an environment where I woke up everyday and the house wasn't the same as yesterday...then followed suit with every room I owned after that (in smaller doses). And I realised that those 3 things are my passions. So I'm gonna stop being cheesy now and just conclude that that's my new plan. Bye.
.....god..

THAT DEVIANT INGREDIENT

Tim Burton's drawings, paintings, storyboards, digital and moving-image formats, puppets and maquettes, props, costumes, ephemera, sketchbooks, and cartoons exhibited, as well as 27 years worth of films being screened, at MOMA for 5 whole months?!? This is gonna be heights, no?
Even though I'm not doing back flips over his upcoming '9' movie, the man dominated a huge chunk of my pre-teen existence. Have got to find my way to San Francisco somehow. And so should you.

IT MIGHT GET LOUD
A bit iffy about this documentary. Not really interested in what U2 dude has to say and I hear Jack White comes off as more than obnoxiously proud. But love him to shreds. And well, holing up at Jimmy Page's place and obsessing over guitars? Yeah. Intrigue entereth. Won't purchase this though (already have my eyes on the Woodstock movie). But heard about this one on the radio only yesterday. Is it showing anywhere?
Speaking of movies though, we went to see District 9 yesterday (awesome), then snuck into Ponyo (very cute, as is everything from Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki). Go see.

LIFE IS SHORT. STUNT IT.
Clearly, I had an idle moment recently and took in the movie Hot Rod that was conveniently On Demand on the flat screen. I confess. I laughed. I do quite like Andy Samberg actually. But anyway, his stunt outfit is my current clothing inspiration; and his quote 'Life is short. Stunt it.' is so fucking hilarious. It NEEDS to be on a t-shirt (is it? Please direct me to it.). I think I need me some high top Vans now. Time for an upgrade. Which reminds me, I have a pair of faithfully crusty green Converse high tops at the bottom of one of my unpacked suitcases dying for some wearage. Might take them out for a spin tomorrow. I'm renting a bike for an hour to fuck around with along the Corniche (waterfront).I'm trying to mix up my workout routine. Today I did one of those 30 minute treadmill workout programmes where they fuck with your head and your feet and change the speed and incline like every fucking minute. And then I did laps in the pool. I also do yoga and have been trying out that crossfit hellishness that my boyfriend recommended, along with other odd bits at the gym but I get bored easily with workouts so it would be good to take it to the streets tomorrow. Would kill to get some tennis in but I think the punishing heat here would kill me first. Tennis just doesn't happen this time of year. And because of a similar weather problem, it isn't 'surfing season' in Dubai. So I'm obviously counting the days like a prison inmate until Los Angeles happens.
On Wednesday I'm getting my breasts checked; and it's not because of an amazing blogger's unsuspecting incident. I've always had on-again-off-again cyst and soreness problems ever since I started tampering with contraceptive pills (no big deal, but...maybe it is?) and the other day I failed to keep my mouth shut about some pain and my mom panicked like fuck. No harm, I guess. Plus I haven't gotten them checked in over 8 months. And who knows if those damn British medical people even knew what the fuck they were talking about? Not panicking, I promise.
P.S. Until my employment status gets pimped, I'll be posting 'I am still in need of a writing job' at the end of every post.

DEATHPROOF
2 things. Even though I found out my US Residency application was accepted yesterday, I still had a pretty shit day + the best fun I've ever had at the cinema was when I went to see Deathproof/Planet Terror in San Jose 2 years ago with Panda. I love old Grindhouse movies so naturally, I tuned in last night when Deathproof came on TV, rather than opting for Mistress Ivy's suggestion of having a night out. I can't imagine why you wouldn't have already seen this one but the gist is, Kiwi homegirl in pink (sexy stunt woman Zoe Bell - in real life and on screen) came all the way to America to visit her friends and to test drive this white Dodge Challenger a la Vanishing Point and do the Ship's Mass stunt on it. Then this crazy old stunt man on the road in his deathproof car (Kurt Russell) comes terrorising them. See the movie. He kills some sexy bitches in a seriously unsexy limb-tearing way earlier on. But this set of bitches just won't have it after he nearly kills them all. So this is the ending scene where they kick his lily ass and which I swear was making my underwear a wild waterslide at a major theme park. Watch past the credits too. Ooh and the end song is sooo good.
So that, with bad expensive red wine from my parent's cabinet, some hummus, pita, tabbouleh and grilled halloumi more than made my night. I'm really loving vegetarianism out here and am getting into the healthy eating crap. It can be fun.

SAVE THE LIFE OF MY CHILD
Said Mistress Ivy on le Vampyre's wall:
I truly love the company I keep. Such a shame I have to leave these two soon. But the sun is oh so bright on the other side. Can't...help..it. Sat talking with them into the wee hours this morning, sipping on diluted Captain Morgan. Had just come from a particularly shit night out in Clapham with some girls in Primark dresses, tiaras and custom made sashes, and my old friend decked out in some tight-ass gear as Superman. While sipping on an Espresso Martini, I glared at the guy who was smiling at me over the shoulder of one of the tiara'd girls, while he whispered in her ear and she giggled. I heard something along the lines of:
Sleazy Man: blahblahblahblah girl on girl action blahblahblahblah sexy. That girl over there is really cute.
Acquaintance: I know that girl. She came with us.
Sleazy Man: Well, she's really cute. Call her over.
A: Yeah she's cute but blahblahblahblah... (it all got swallowed up when Kings of Leon started to play)
Later on when she and her friend left us to keep the night from ending with two other guys, I commented on how stupidly trashy they were acting, and that made my friend the Vegan upset. She wasn't really talking to me after that, which is fine; I was ready and setting off to go home anyway. But...as mentioned, ended up in the company of le Vampyre and Mistress Ivy.
Then at around 6, I climbed a wall (not sure why...) and ran home in one of le Vampyre's coats. It started raining and it felt really good spattering my face as I ran. I love how some people think that if they run in the rain they will get less wet, but really you're gathering more and more water on your body the faster you run.
OH YEAH! Watched Pom Poko the other night at le Vampyre's: found it hard to swallow (ha- swallow- good word choice) that raccoon testicles play an integral part of the film; the creator really went all out making good use of them. They transformed into huge swollen weapons, blankets and parachutes etc...but it's such a cool fucking movie.
i dont think I should pierce you in class today, i think liz would be too distressed! but one evening when im not dying of a migrane if your up for it would love to stick some needles in you! :-)

ME, MY YOKE AND I
I like songs that set the tone of a day; influence the atmosphere around me. Walking around East London just off Brick Lane during my lunch hour working at Yoga mag, seeing but not hearing the hustle and bustle of Indian Immigrants selling their trade, glittering saris and bright fabrics in the sunlight, colourful displays of healthy fruit and veg, an old woman grabbing at her sequined skirts with her henna'd hands and running after a giggling toddler with gold bracelets on his arm. This song is perfect for that; people and culture watching. One of the guys I sit next to at the office was on a cigarette break outside and I caught him watching me puzzled. I was beaming with my headset hugging my head.
I had to sub-edit a piece at the office yesterday. One of the issues involved was the fact that everything is inter-related. This post works well with that.
This song is one of Gustavo Santaolalla's (my favourite composer these days) and is from Motorcycle Diaries (Che Guevara's road story- and also one of my favourites). It's been on repeat on my iPod for about a week now. I find it so calming but it also makes me miss traveling around Spanish countries, and keeps taking me back to my dream of living in Mexico for a few months as an impoverished writer in a motel with a leafy green pool. I miss Costa Rica so damn much...Anyway, fittingly, this week was my last chance to see Che Pt. 1 (Pt. 2 has been out for a considerable amount of time now) so Tuesday night I went to watch it in Leicester Square. I felt I owed it to myself to figure out why the hell as a youth in Trinidad, I blindly embraced all things Che Guevara without knowing squat about him save for the fact that he was quite good-looking on the t-shirts my peers wore. I have a t-shirt, a mug, a ring...and up to Tuesday, I hadn't really figured the guy out. So, need I say more than Benicio del Toro as Che? Think not. So round two next week.
I think it a sign if you encounter a man's name twice in one night. Che Pts. 1 and 2 director, Steven Soderbergh appeared within the pages of the book I was reading on the bus home from the movie; in which his Sex, Lies and Videotape was cited. I shall explore the man's portfolio some more as requested by the forces around me that are drawing me towards him.
Speaking of that book, there are just some books you feel so damn good about reading in public, where everyone can see it. What I was reading is one such. I went to the library today to pay some late fees and re-issue some books. And the stately gentleman behind the desk reminded me:
S.G.: And the other one you've borrowed is due back on the 19th.
ME: Which one is that?
S.G.: uhhh...'Bitch: In Praise of Difficult Women' by Elizabeth Wurtzel
ME: hahaha (pointing at him) that was funny. Okay, thanks!
I also love Elizabeth Wurtzel (Prozac Nation lady). She's so hot too. My God. And such a feminist bitch! The essays in that book are quite angrily thorough. From famed bible bitch Delilah to Patti Smith, Courtney Love and fierce female murderers. I'm not a feminist...yet. But I definitely side with her on the alluring qualities of the bitch. And from her meandering definitions, I find myself smugly in the middle of the category.
ANYWAYS, SO...what's up with me?
Forever pestering mags and eating fat pasta dinners. Yoga. Yoga Magazine. Magazine launch party tomorrow night. A weekend of essay writing. Might give in and buy moccasins. Hair looks sexily hipster messy and needs washing. Asking my L.A. friends on Facebook to hire me while talking dirty with the boyf on Skype. Now ripping the plastic off the first ever Skin Two Yearbook and jumping into bed with it. C'est tout and good night.

HYPNOTIZE
I saw the Notorious movie this past weekend when I went to visit my cousin and her baby. I don't know why I'm talking about this because the movie wasn't something I would've originally set out to see. I guess it's because it reminded me of this scene. I have a ridiculous love for 10 Things... I know the entire script, Kat was what I had set out to be in life (this literary shrew, driving this chewed up car, scowling, table dancing when life got too hard and passing out in a gorgeous guy's arms, then vomiting in it, but vomiting in a way that had him coming back for more - (happened)). Achieved full stop
So, does this count as a post? I started work experience at Yoga magazine so my days are stacked. Hence sorry excuse for a post. Nah, I think this is a killer post. Highlight of my day. OMG NO! The highlight was discovering Jala Neti, and vomiting up water and things like that (filing at the Yoga office).

I SEE THE FLESH AND IT SMELLS FRESH AND IT'S JUST THERE FOR THE TAKING

So all day I've been trying my best to avoid my Developing the Novel homework. It is so tedious when you have tedious novel ideas. So I've been browsing random documentaries (currently on the history of crack/cocaine), as well as enjoying back to back old school Tom and Jerry. I came across a pretty sick docu. on Snuff Movies ('the dark side of porn') that I thought I should share with the sick and plain curious.
