MADE THIS WAY
Kesh has a new print. I dig. A lot. Only a Trinidadian could be that rad. :p It's pretty affordable too - even the recently rebelliously unemployed like me can have one. But no. I am thinking to grab the rest of the money and run. I've been dreaming of spontaneous sabbaticals...Like..can you go on a writing retreat when you're not really even a writer?

GOD IS NOT THE ONLY ONE WATCHING
And OF COURSE the owner of a place like this is named Cindy Gallop. What else would she be called, yuh know? Extra Fucking Credit.
I can't stress how much this place is blowing. my. mind. So glad I found it right on the cusp of renting my first apartment in Abu Dhabi and am thoroughly re-inspired. Speaking of my potential new home...dear readers, I am terrified. It's perfect. And I promise after today to never gush over it ever again until I am moving in because I'm afraid to jinx it. It's the cheapest and biggest studio I've seen in town so far. It's brand spanking new, includes water and electricity, has a huge window, HUGE white rooftop (say hello to better outfit of the day photos), 24 hour fitness centre with sauna, parking spot, 10 mins away from where I work and smack opposite some of my favourite hangouts (can already see myself rolling home at 4am). What's the catch? I'll have to pay a year's rent up front plus deposit and agency fees. So my mum and I are scraping up some serious cash right now, and this is exactly why even though I have a pretty badass fulltime job with matching salary (which I just received), I ate cup noodles for lunch today and will be serving drinks on my friend's boat this weekend for a measly 50 dirhams an hour. I can't remember if I told you about this friend - The English Russian? - He lives on a boat, has a diamond drilled into one of his canines and likes BDSM. He also offered to lend me some of the money. I politely refused though...
YEAH, I FIGURED OUT HOW TO MAKE MY PICTURES BIGGER. DADDY LIKEY!

BENCH-PRESSING TWENTY ODD THINGS BEFORE BREAKFAST
So literally the first thing I did when I touched down in Manila (apart from put back in my nose ring and limply hug a never-ending line-up of long lost friends from the US and UK, including Panda) was scope out a tattoo parlour. Luckily there was one next door to my hotel so by the time we hit the clubs that night, I was totally rocking it.

Of course my arm was grabbed to no end that night so it stung like a bitch but it's the price you pay, right? Not sure if you can read it but it says '...and she lived happily ever after'. I was toying with doing the whole 'Once upon a time..' business on my other arm but my wallet told me to hold off and see where my bills ended up near the end of the trip (and boy am I lucky I refrained). Anyway, just to add, as someone who has suffered from clinical depression since she was 12, I am absolutely obsessed with happiness and chasing it. So that should explain that one. As for now, as Jay-Z would say...'on to the next one.'

A TOPSY TURVY STATE OF AFFAIRS
I personally think Christmas is so boring/dramatic/sad, so we try to mix shit up a little bit every year (if not with my drinking).

My brother and father so far remain the only persons terrified, whereas everyone else who drops by is excitedly running back to their cars to grab their cameras (not to mention, I've been getting numerous requests for "exclusive" photos on this). Maybe we should hang upside down crucifixes and/or weapons from it like these.

FINDING THE CONSTELLATION OF THE HEART

How 'lush' (as you brits say) is this light fixture?!? Designer Winnie Lui is literally swimming through my head! I must have this full stop

OF LILIES AND REMAINS

Okay, that wasn't such a long hiatus after all. I MIGHT do a couple more posts tonight since I'm all amped after 40 minutes on the treadmill, self-help reading material and coca cola (yes, my boyfriend and I broke up). But here are links to all the other posts I've written elsewhere that got published today:
Two over at Kill City (one on that ring!!) and my first proper Bitching and Junkfood post on the Where the Wild Things Are opening reception for the Pop-Up shop they opened at Space 15 Twenty last month in LA. I've owed you pictures from that for ages. Next up, the Kill City X Brian Lichtenberg collab party (with an added bonus!), so stay tuned.
P.S. I don't know why my KC posts' layouts are so shit- was having major probs trying to fix those; and my first post was supposed to go second and vice versa, duh (not my fault).

XXX
Here are the latest and greatest:
Looking... tattered as per usual: sleep mask atop head, big grey hoodie and slacks; but it's only noon.
Reading... Now don't laugh, but I lost my virginity to Haruki Murakami last night. I trotted over to Magrudy's to buy a few books to last me through this month's dry spell while I search for jobs (won't tell you what else I bought as very unbecoming). Anyway, there were only a few of his titles in store so I picked up the one with a cover photo I recognised as done by Nobuyoshi Araki. It's called After Dark and I am thorouhly hypnotized. I found myself waking again 'after dark' to continue reading it so I can feel closer to the scene. He writes those simple stories that I like to write, just like my other favourite Hanif Kureishi. It's so simple though, it's like seeing a smooth stone slide past the still surface of a pond; not a spectacular occurrence but yet still causing impact and ripples and dreamy things in my brain. Plus any story about sleepless, beautiful people haunting the darkest hours of the night, and listlessly telling of what and who they encounter is bliss between book covers for me.
Living...at my parents'. for now. Hey, I'm totally entitled to that at age 20. I'll be on my way soon.
Working...at A Dirty Word; I'm freelance so same ole same ole, finishing up an article for Skin Two still, while plotting several smaller ones to pitch out soon.
Listening to...I can't tell you. At least not yet. I've proposed a review of it to someone. When it gets rejected, you'll be the first to know. But all I'll say is I had the greatest most happy, atmospheric, adventuristic time listening to it while walking backwards on an incline on the treadmill yesterday.
Drinking...meticulously made Milo with a few splashes of Bailey's around 5am
Watching...30 Rock; but only out of curiosity, what with all those Emmy wins a month ago.
Smelling of...damask rose; still all hung up on rose-infused products; room sprays, cold creams, toners...smells like a crone-heavy tea party up in here.
Eating...seriously the best hummous from this outlet in the nearby mall's food court called Beirut
Dreaming of...work. I've been brainstorming, pitching and writing articles in my dreams. Can you imagine how much it sucks to wake up and still have nothing done or published?
Wearing...Well, I WISH I was wearing this
Walking in... and WISH I was walking in these.
Singing... truthfully nothing.
Trying...to not let those stupid antiperspirant deoderant/breast cancer rumours bother me. In the same shopping trip I made yesterday for antiperspirant, I also bought a copy of Emirates Woman magazine, who later told me to drop the roll-on.
Wanting...a job. Some things may happen this coming week. Wish me luck.
*and yes, clearly I have not been in a mood to put headers on my posts. Lyrical headers are currently on hiatus until I decide what to do about them (are they so Two Thousand and Late? Because I'm starting to get bored)

I FOUND YOU IN A CHAIN OF FLOWERS, SLEEPING LIKE A MARBLE GIRL
The same time we went to see Mike Shinoda's Glorious Excess (Dies) exhibit at the Japanese American National Museum, we stumbled upon a tribute to the kokeshi doll. Kokeshi dolls were originally given as souvenirs to visitors to the hot springs in Northern Japan. Different towns put their own spin on the plain-faced originals, and they've been re-vamped and customized ever since. Check out my favourites from the exhibit, which are actually on sale for about $200-300 each. I would love one...or 6. You should really go check out the rest before the exhibit ends on October 4th, and absolutely don't show me what you ended up buying; or you can just click here.
