JUST WHATEVER PT. 2

Today's a sunny day. Well done, well done. So I have to take advantage of it, not just by taking pictures of oddities in my room, but by actually doing the whole outdoor tra-la-la: walking around with camera, sunglasses, iced Starbucks drink, double decker buses; yup yup. I have a lot of shit to do today though.

It's good to see Kill City in all these rad places (not that I know who the fuck Whitney Port is - and please, don't tell me). Above is me wearing the stained pewter skinnies they sent me. Wearing these I know it's gonna be a good day.

Heading here tonight with a vampire. Not just to review it, but for the live acts as well - whoever they are, I don't care; it's a punk bar and they came all the way from the US for this shit, so fuck it, let's hear it. Haven't been to a small gig in centuries. Come along and say hi! I'm wearing plaid. Okay, that sure as fuck won't set me apart. Better one: I'm black. Oh, and buy me a drink...

Damn, this looks good though too:
PhotobucketAlign Center

I never get tagged to do these shits but as we're bloggers, we like talking about ourselves, hence I'll do it anyway. Our generation is walking around with mirrors in their back pockets.

3 random things about me:
1- I like picking the scabs off recent cuts (likethisoneonmyindexfingerthatjustwon'tfuckingbudge!!!)
2- I read Stephenie Meyer's latest cult vampire books but if I feel the urge to do it in public, I take off the covers
3- I'm thinking I should remove the link to this blog from my Facebook page as so many goddamned relatives keep adding me

P.S. The next post is gonna be some awesome scans from some mags I just bought: War (free), Plastique and i-D

I GET MY KICKS FROM WATCHING PEOPLE RUNNING TO AND FRO

I listened to this all weekend. Still am. Sometimes I cried, sometimes I just sat back and enjoyed being alive to hear it. You might remember it from Babel (that soundtrack is one of my absolute favourites, mostly because of Gustavo Santaolalla's arrangements, like the closing piece 'Bibo No Aozora' ...what Limewire named it, not me, so sorry for any misinterpretation). I have a thing for movie scores and soundtracks. My iPod is considerably packed. I am also really getting back into acoustic guitar and wish I hadn't stopped playing it. It's just in the move from Trinidad to Abu Dhabi, somehow, an entire guitar got lost. I will probably invest in another after graduation though.

Anyways, this post is just...to make sure you know I am still around. Nothing amazing has happened lately. I have lots of gathered finds from New York Fashion Week to show you, but I try to post things in a varied manner because, even though there are far more fashion posts than others, I'd like there to be a little something for everyone at A Dirty Word, whether you're a perv who likes bondage, someone who shares similar interests in reading/writing, metal and other great music like the track above, enjoys my inane postings because it's a relief from the things you read in your office and on the tube or you are just stalking me and waiting for me to accidentally slip my address. Another reason for those last few sentences is because I realised I am building up a small male following here, not including Panda (or the gay one), and that is slightly embarassing, but also very cool, so, I'm trying harder to balance the ship. Hello to the newbies like Sebastian! (bet he didn't know I was going to do that- I'll allow him to respond with a stream of dirty words if he likes :p).

I'm just sitting here eating some Uncle Ben's 3 minute microwaveable risotto with a mini can of coke (you know how much I like those). Now that the can's done and it's approaching the witching hour, I've switched to a very cheap glass or two of red wine. I am reading 2009's copy of 'Best Women's Erotica' because I am reviewing it for Skin Two, and I'm finding that it's actually quite decent. If you're into Erotica, you should definitely pick this up (but wait for my review to come out first on the Skin Two website, read it, AND THEN buy it). Alternatively, if having to spend money in this day and age's current crisis makes you vomit, then check out my amazingly talented and beautiful lecturer's erotica here. I've been meaning to post about her for ages, not only because I'm a fan of her and her work (she once interviewed Prince!), but also because she's a fan of mine and has been one of the biggest inspirations so far to it (yeah, I can be big-headed, but I find sometimes it helps). In other sex-related news (Oh God here goes...) I wrote this, and down here's my silly little biog to go with it). I'll have you know it's been edited a bit and sorry, in advance.

Rewind a bit to when I was speaking of money woes, this guy is about to kill himself; obviously. Why am I the only one who sees that? Or did he kill himself already?

And on other men, Panda and I are not doing so well recently. I think we're both tense about this L.A. move thing and we've been having big fights about it. I know for one, I am really stressing. So we've decided to limit our talking to emails every now and then so we don't rip each other's throats out "face to face"; face to face in quotations because as we're long distance, that could only mean video chat on Skype. (BUT I LOVE YOU!). Good.

Maybe there's more to post tomorrow.

IF IT MAKES YOU HAPPY

Normally people say when life gives you lemons..blah blah blah. Fuck lemons. I like strawberries. And when life makes you want to stick an air-filled syringe in your left eyeball, I am going to make organic pancakes with pure maple syrup and strawberries on top; with chai tea (not pictured).

After that, in the evening, you might get a pint of cider, lager and black currant, watch a movie, neglect friends and fall asleep to the amazing band you're missing perform tonight (pardon the utterly shit video). Actually, I'm listening to this one, but not very band representative, is it?

I swear, if I could cough up £11 a session at the Hot Bikram Yoga studio that I used to work at, I would be there. Bikram Yoga is my drug of choice. Nothing gets you more amped up and aired out for a night of raving until 6am, then explicit sex (if that were available to you) until it's breakfast and time for pancakes again like Bikram Yoga. Intense fucking energy.

And I swear, whoever has my mug in their dormitory as I type this, I will hang them from their window sill with their dental floss. I hate campus!

FROM A STARSHIP OVER VENUS TO THE SUN

Can't for the life of me get this song by Shudder to Think out of my head. Believe it or not, but I saw this movie for the first time in my life last month, snuggled between the most beautiful ladies in London; my friend Fi and my cousin Becks. All I have to say is that Johnathan Rhys Myers and Christian Bale are two clearly VERY devoted actors to their craft. Kudos. Also, this entire soundtrack is COMPLETELY worth it.

The best way I know how to wish you Seasons Greetings and all that; through X. If you're fortunate enough to be in San Francisco for the holidays, check them out at Slim's on the 26th and 27th. I've been listening to 'Motel (In My Bed)' non-fucking-stop these past few days, along with these other random particulars:

Sex on Fire - Kings of Leon
Bella's Lullaby (the official one in the movie) - Carter Burwell
Nausea - X
Baby's on Fire - Brian Eno (finally watched 'Velvet Goldmine'; yeah, what a loser)
The Movies - Alien Ant Farm

I am in Abu Dhabi again, celebrating the holidays with the fam. Apart from that, I should be reading all the books on novel writing and book proposals that I lugged over here in my suitcase, and working on my essay and novel. But I am playing with our cute new dog Rigby, whom I call Ecstasy because if Ecstasy were a dog...not kidding.

I'm also tempted to call up my friend Sweetie to hit up the clubs on this end of the world (Suet Yee - flight attendant chick who I met while travelling with my dad and his crew to beijing; we hit it off pretty well...the times she wasn't serving me on the flight, that is). But I know all that'll happen today is one bulging bout of laziness with a bit of alcohol, sporadic reading with an absence of an attention span and one huge bath (I smell like dirty dog), and maybe old school Tom and Jerry in the wee hours.

Last night, after a ridiculous Christmas dinner (my mom gets carried away this time of year) I stayed up til 7am and washed dishes with her and we talked about the inevitable: after college. I told her I wanted to move to Cali and live with Panda. She's gonna help me apply for jobs and all that. She also gave me a little cash to put into a savings account to save up for my 'future'. This is sort of MUCH easier than I thought. And that's because we haven't yet consulted the other side: the dad.

Anyways! Panda's on Skype so I shall leave you to fiddle with yesterday's gifts and my Limewire to boil up some Mastodon, Satyricon and like ALL the tracks from the ABSOLUTELY AMAZING (like tears streaking my face amazing) 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch', which I should really give its own post soon, along with some other decent movies I just saw. (Don't worry, Twilight isn't included).

THE AWFUL TRUTH

I was a little disappointed about missing the Rancid show this past Friday (what's more is I think 'X' played that same day too), not only for the sake of bopping to Ruby Soho, but also for scoping out Tim Armstrong's latest garb, because clearly...
...his style is what you're gonna want.
Anyways, at least pretty decent acts are still to come (and I bet this list even needs updating). Slipknot for sure though.

ONLY AT NIGHT TIME I SEE YOU, IN DARKNESS I FEEL YOU

I can't for the life of me figure out where I was when this was going on RIGHT UNDER MY NOSE IN MARCH! I know for a fact I was finished with all coursework by April 29th. How. is. it. possible. that. I. was. not. the. one. making. this. video? Won't happen again, of course. Siouxsie is a must-see. Anyways, this is 'Night Shift', one of my faves (although the track I have sounds completely different), and, appropriately, I can't sleep to save my life. It is something past 8am. All manner of things going on today; snowboarding, live bands, Gap, money, feathers, cowboys and indians. I kid you not. HEY! Let's see who can have the better weekend! Ok, go!

LOVE AND SOME VERSES

Having a relatively chill Wednesday evening making failed Mixwit tapes, job hunting and trying (and failing) to get this

and this

out of my head, all while under the covers. Loves it. Hope you guys are having a good week!

EVERY OTHER WEEK I NEED A NEW ADDRESS

'X' marks the spot. Can't get more cliche than that. They're just one of the two bands I'm listening to right now (the other being Rancid). Damn you, Jen. They're sort of like a Punk Siouxsie and the Banshees, and anything remotely Siouxsie is cool by association.

Wish I could see them play at Club Nokia on Dec. 20th. (Yeah Panda, that's in L.A.). He has me contemplating coming there again for christmas. But that would require me quitting my job and blowing all the money I made, which is the start of some sort of after-college-poverty-fund. bummer. My life sucks, doesn't it?

P.S. Diana, QUIT THAT JOB!

WE COME TOGETHER MAKING CHANCE IN THE STARLIGHT

(I bought this poster for £2.50 today at a Poster sale on campus. Reminds me of my younger years. My mom had a framed version of this in our Trinidad house.)

Leather-jacketed Urchin Paul from downstairs (LJUP): Hey you. I forgot your name again. Sorry. I told you I'm shit with names.
Me: Well...that's okay because I forgot to even remember yours (Security snickers. I stick out my tongue.)
LJUP: Alright, alright, I get it. It's Paul anyways.
Me: Yup. I know. Didn't actually forget it. But you forgot mine...again. It's Kara.
LJUP: Sorry. Gimme the week.
Me: Yes, I shall give you the week in which to forget it.
LJUP: (laughs) You having a nice night?
Me: Well...my dorm smells rank, it's too cold to open the windows and air it out and my heater is broken. Not to mention, I just bought groceries but still have no utensils to eat/drink them with. Clever girl.
LJUP: Aww man. Well...THINK HAPPY THOUGHTS!

I like LJUP. We need a new name for him though.

I met these other two guys today, who live in the block adjacent to mine. They walked me home after class because the inter-collegiate bus driver just refused to acknowledge that our grimy campus still exists behind God's back, and didn't wanna drop me there when I asked him. I can pretty much flat out say that I hate him. Anyway, needless to say, as is the usual, they thought I was American and they told me this guy vacated my dorm room a week ago so that's why I got it. Oh dear...Still, after a very tedious 5am email to the accommodation office, nothing has been resolved. I am planning on moving, I think...You can pretty much tell what the temperature's like in here just by looking at my chest.

Also, my free Kill City clothes came. They're hanging about in London...somewhere. UPS called and said I gave them the wrong address (which, naturally, I didn't) and they just emailed me to say I gotta contact them because they're either going to destroy it or send it back. And that would be really tragic because I got a majorly awesome tshirt, and some stone-wash skinny jeans that I pray fit. I will show you the items if/as soon as I get them. Don't wanna go getting my hopes up just yet.

In better news, I have two job interviews tomorrow (Student Editor position and bar job), and if I manage to get both of them there will be much drunken festivity in the night-time. Let's all go to White Heat at Madame Jojo's? It's a really killer time...and I've met the best people there, including a guy who cheated my friend out of some cocaine right in front of the police. Anyway, I'm off to go nick a plate and fork from some unsuspecting flatmate so I can eat something. Here's tonight's playlist:

Homecoming - The Teenagers
Black Hole Sun - Sound Garden
Take Saravá - Silvia Torres
I Want I Want - Digitalism
Once Upon a Time - Air
Time to Pretend - MGMT
Siamese Twins - Siouxsie and the Banshees feat. Robert Smith
Don't Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult
Free Money - Patti Smith
Sally's Song - Fiona Apple

TOO MANY LIVES TO LEAD, AND NOT ENOUGH TIME

So, I'm happily and heartily listening to this epic Kate Bush song on my ipod and singing all the parts, even the 'yay yay yoooo', and then my sister bursts out laughing at me.

She goes, "HAHAHAHA I love how you altered the song. You're mad. Where did you get that from?"

"Do you even know this song?" I ask

"Yes. Of couse. But you changed it."

So basically, there are a ton of great covers to this song, from Placebo to Within Temptation, and the latter is the one she used to hear me blasting from way back, which goes like so...

And here are the others I've heard:

Nolwenn Leroy

Placebo

YOU SHAKE MY NERVES AND RATTLE MY BRAIN

1991 - Crystal Castles
Because the Night - Patti Smith
Heavy Metal (Black and Silver) - Blue Oyster Cult
