BACKING DOWN DON'T FIGURE WHEN IT COMES AROUND

So by chance last week I went to the salon next door and got my nails done, something I never do, but decided to on a whim because I just snagged a sick pale, minty green nail colour I'm going to call Chanel Green (and because we get discounts there as my dad's airline staff). And while there, I picked up some magazine or other and found the most exciting article on these crazy Ukranian chicks shredding up the forest as part of this 150 strong tribe devoted to mastery in martial arts, boxing and duelling with medieval weapons. They're reviving ancient Amazonian tribal traditions, as well as seeking complete autonomy from men . They call themselves the 'Asgarda' and idolize Yulia Tymoshenko, the icon of the Orange Revolution and leader of the Ukrainian Fatherland party.

As bizarre as this all sounds, I can't help but be drawn to these kids and so wish I could get some disciplinary training myself up in the Carpathian Mountains (and why the hell not, as there are no longer men in my life). In addition to this, I've always had an inclination toward daggers/swords/sharp objects since I was about 13 (yes, including knife play fantasies - you know me so well) and have always wanted to learn to floor someone while wielding a fucking...scythe or something (boobs hanging out et al) - as much as the tough-sexy-girl-with-weapon act has been beaten to death by Hollywood, I still find it so appealing.

Anyway, here are some stunning photos of the girls taken by French photographer Guillaume Herbaut when he went to visit them in 2004.

Literally too cool for school (AND for fashion, what with the less than partly shaved heads!)...Taking this article in to incorporate into my lesson plan tomorrow, as well as this - because 75% of my class is burka clad.

ABOVE IT ALL

Sorry, dudes. I needed those 4 days off. I'm feeling much better about everything after de-activating my twitter and facebook accounts (so no, you weren't deleted from my list) and spending time with myself just having a blast shopping and writing and sleeping and reading...and job-hunting, and this little song/memory from Sesame Street has just contributed to that. Okay, so the latest and greatest...

Looking...shiny and new; I've been slowly giving myself a re-vamp
Reading...The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami; Elle (it took me this long to realise that Elle totally dominates Vogue - no offense - and I'd still love a job at Vogue, please!)
Living...the life
Working...same shit, but with tons of new ideas/projects in mind, which are kinda really fucking exciting
Listening to...Bowie!
Drinking...Chai tea lattes or watermelon juice, most likely
Watching...if I could, I would probably be watching Chungking Express or Pepi, Luci y Bom or Vicky, Christina, Barcelona - some of my faves
Smelling of...CK One and Nivea Creme
Eating...Haven't touched a single carb for 2.5 days now...which leaves room for not much else really..
Dreaming of...fuck dreams
Wearing...leather, (fake) fur, copious rings, black, black, gold, grey, black...and now that I found my camera cable, lots and lots of pictures will be taken, I promise
Walking in...bare-footed
Singing...Sesame Street songs and Britney
Trying...to not eat carbs, to not spend money on Bebe's abso kinkified boots, to not sleep so much, to live in my inspirations
Wanting...a glass of rouge, then a few more, then a cup of Earl Grey

Yeah, this is a pretty boring post but I'll have new stuff up soon enough. Go read a newspaper.

BARBED LIKE SEX, I FELT 10,000 VOLTS

I know, finally, some word from me. It's because I am no longer teaching 16 year old's locked up in their palace rooms, or 10 year old twenty somethings at academies rolling in indifferent money. I am in my room, writing Fiction once again and making my way around the editorial offices of the world begging my way into their lives (all the while listening to Siouxsie and the Banshees/Chopin/Gustavo Santaolalla/Dimmu Borgir/The Doors/Simian Mobile Disco...); and I am beginning to think that a sales job at Topshop will suffice.

Okay, not quite yet.

Anyway, today I am going to talk about Asian people. It's true they hold a great deal of space in my heart and head (none more so than the obvious boyfriend - must say that because I can already see him scowling). But I already talk about him quite a lot so today I'll talk about Ji Kim of Luxirare and Haruki Murakami.

As usual, all I have to do to illustrate to you the poetry of Ji Kim's web presence is provide you with a couple pictures from her site:

That 'To the Floor' post will be the death of you. Be careful. And conveniently, it is pinned up at the side of my brain labeled Halloween Inspiration (decided to go it safe with the Couturable Vampire route - anyone know where I can find some durable fangs? Want to wear them well after H is over, to snarl at some of the local Arab girls while shopping - and yes, as late as I may be, True Blood has infiltrated, not that I wasn't already a smitten wannabe fang-banger). To reassure you that it is indeed Kara speaking though, Halloween aside, those outfits are more than wearable on a daily basis and I would gladly accept a wardrobe consisting solely of those pieces!

And Murakami. Well, I've been talking about him semi-non-stop for the past week. Just finished this one this morning on the way to work.

Not my favourite, but I've only just gotten started on his many works and am still on the lookout for Kafka on the Shore, which doesn't seem to exist over here, but which Becks strongly recommends. If I myself had to recommend any so far, it would definitely be After Dark - it's the oddball Japanese love story between young people who don't sleep, in a city that doesn't either - always takes my heart. Anyway, here's a passage from South of the Border.. that I absolutey adored.

Her hand, which up till then had lain on the back of the sofa, she now placed on her knee. I stared vacantly at her fingers tracing the plaid pattern of her skirt. There was something curious about it, as if invisible thread emanating from her fingertips was spinning together an entirely new concept of time. I closed my eyes, and in the darkness, whirlpools flashed before me. Countless whirlpools were born and disappeared without a sound. Off in the distance, Nat King Cole was singing 'South of the Border'. The song was about Mexico, but at the time I had no idea. The words 'south of the border' had a strange, appealing ring to them. I was convinced something utterly wonderful lay south of the border. When I opened my eyes, Shimamoto was still moving her fingers along her skirt. Somewhere deep inside me I felt an exquisitely sweet ache.

Yes! GO GO GO!

THIS ONE'S FOR THE DUMPSTER

Because I have nothing to say about Alexander Wang's S/S 10 line (and I'm not the only one - armageddon cometh?), check out the Trashicist's fierce wardrobe for the Rad Hourani (I don't mind talking about him) diffusion line party/show. I DIE! I die and steal her soul.

I truly am the only blogger miles and miles away from a catwalk right now. I'm also leaving a week before L.A. Fashion Week. Nice, right? Nothing doing today except copious tweeting in front of the tv.

UPDATE: sorry babes, so this is from a show back in July. No biggie. Either way, I really don't have anything to say about Fahion Week right now anyway.

GLIDING ON A HEARTBEAT, STIRRING UP A CROWD

This is Felix Cane, an Australian Pole Dance World 2009 winner who now lives in Las Vegas working with Cirque du Soleil's 'Zumanity'.

Damn. And I already had so many other goals on my list. And it's not like they were normal either (Dune Bashing? Shibari/Kinbaku?)

And her boots coincidentally resemble the style of the hot fuckers I just posted. I think hers' trump though.

NO ONE BELONGS HERE MORE THAN YOU

She made a website specifically for that. And you can click on 'Buy'. I would've but my bank says stay clear of words like that until May. Best marketing ever. Never even heard of homegirl and never wanted to get my hands on any book more.

Oh, there's more where that came from. Let me link you to the next image. She's funny. Check it out. And I'm afraid I'm so ill-informed and tragically behind on cool Miranda July-esque trends so the tour information featured is long past. I repeat, DO NOT SHOW UP AT THE SERPENTINE ON THE 4TH of JUNE AS I WAS THINKING OF DOING A STUPID MILLISECOND AGO!

However, DO visit her website and tell me you hate her for having the sickest website entry page in life!

I am now going to read the London Paper until the all-clear in May. Still waiting for my Adulterers Anonymous book in the post too...

THIS IS A WHEN I GROW UP MOMENT

ummm...I could be wrong, but this Camilla Skovgaard wedge ankle boot madness might be the most perfect, most beautiful, most compatible motherfucking shoe I've seen in a very long time. The possibilities are flashing past me like shards of glass after a glass house explosion. I am so in love with it. It is the sum of all foot fashion problems. I don't know how much it costs but I am willing to drop serious cash on this, and I don't think I can say that so firmly about any other shoe this year. Gosh damn life is rough.

I would like to go to bed, really I would part 2.
